Prairie Farms and Hy-Vee recently donated 800 gallons of milk to the Food Bank of Siouxland through the annual Great American Milk Drive.
Dairy products are in the top three most requested items by the Food Bank of Siouxland’s over 100 agencies. Through register round up prompts and general donation, Prairie Farms was able to deliver the first 400 gallons on Tuesday, September 26.
“We are fortunate to be able to partner with the Sioux City Hy-Vee group in collecting an item that is one of the most requested but least donated to food banks - white milk. With that, we are excited to be able to donate 800 gallons of milk to the Food Bank of Siouxland. This item is a nutritious drink and Hy-Vee and Prairie Farms are excited to be able to help the Siouxland Community Families with this donation,” says Territory Sales Representative, Craig Lehan.
Over the past two years, Hy-Vee and Prairie farms have donated 1,500 gallons of milk through this campaign.
“Hy-Vee and Prairie Farms have been fantastic supporters of the Food Bank of Siouxland and we are so grateful for their recent work to provide milk to those facing food insecurity. With dairy being one of our top three requested categories of food, this donation is incredibly important. Milk is a wonderful source of calcium, vitamin B and a great way to ensure that those facing need can get important vitamins and nutrients that may otherwise be missed in their diets”
The Food Bank of Siouxland strives to ensure neighbors throughout the community receive a balanced menu when visiting pantries and agencies.
