Letter Carriers’ Food Drive

Saturday, May 12, 2018 was a great day!!

The Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” is a nation-wide event and is the single largest food drive conducted on one designated day from coast to coast. The Sioux City letter carriers, as well as letter carriers in surrounding communities, are committed participants in this large undertaking every year, and conducted another successful food drive with over 19,000 pounds collected.

“Stamp Out Hunger” makes it easy for residents to donate. All they have to do is place non-perishable food items in bags and place the bags next to their mailboxes on the designated date. U.S. Postal Service letter carriers will pick up the bags and donated items to help stock the shelves at the Food Bank of Siouxland. The items most in demand include canned fruit and vegetables, soups, canned meats, hot and cold cereal, pasta, and boxed or ready-made meals (i.e. macaroni and cheese). Please no food past its expiration or “best by date,” no open items, no glass jars, and no homemade/jarred items.

The Food Bank appreciates the volunteers who came to help sort through the donations here at the warehouse. Over 100 individuals came and made an enormous difference!
