Letter Carriers’ Food Drive

Saturday, May 9, 2020

The Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” is a nation-wide event and is the single largest food drive conducted on one designated day from coast to coast. The Sioux City letter carriers, as well as letter carriers in surrounding communities, are committed participants in this large undertaking every year, and are looking forward to next year’s food drive on May 9, 2020.

“Stamp Out Hunger” makes it easy for residents to donate. All they have to do is place non-perishable food items in bags and place the bags next to their mailboxes on the designated date. U.S. Postal Service letter carriers will pick up the bags and donated items to help stock the shelves at the Food Bank of Siouxland. The items most in demand include canned fruit and vegetables, soups, canned meats, hot and cold cereal, pasta, and boxed or ready-made meals (i.e. macaroni and cheese). Please no food past its expiration or “best by date,” no open items, no glass jars, and no homemade/jarred items.

The Food Bank appreciates the volunteers who come to help sort through the donations here at the warehouse. Over 100 individuals came and made an enormous difference last year and we need you again this year!

Volunteers can choose their shift between the hours of 3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2020. Commit to an hour, two hours, three, or more – everyone is needed to make this a success. We’ll even fire up the grill for some hamburgers and hot dogs at around 5:00. To sign up for a volunteer shift, please email or call Tiffany at tiffany@siouxlandfoodbank.org or 712-255-9741.

  1. I’m scheduling this event. I work for Project Recovery Iowa and this definitely applies to those that have been affected by the flood of 2019. Let me know where and when I can volunteer.
